Introduction

30% of all road traffic collisions involve a driver at work. According to figures published by a leading Irish Insurance company at least 21 people were killed and 588 were injured in work-related crashes over a survey period of one year. Providing vehicles that are roadworthy and insuring that drivers of company vehicles have the correct license, falls far short of meeting employer obligations. An employer’s duty of care extends to on-road work activities and requires that work related road safety be addressed.

Addressing road safety at work

Driving at work is by its nature a hazardous activity. As an employer you are legally obliged to manage risk. As with any other hazardous activity in the workplace a risk assessment must be carried out for each employee driving for work and control measures put in place. Studies worldwide show that every road traffic collision involves a degree of driver error. Driver training is the most effective control measure in minimising risk of injury or death.

Driving Road Safety at Work

The Course

This course identifies “the safe and efficient use of a company vehicle” as an important part of workplace safety, health and welfare. The training programme provides practical training, reducing on-road-risk to a minimum, allowing employers to meet their obligations under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.

This course can be delivered to suit all vehicle categories.

In identifying efficient use of company vehicles the training programme offers; measurable cost savings to employers and, leads to more environmentally friendly driving.

Aim

To provide training to drivers of company vehicles creating an awareness of how a professional approach to motoring is an important part of workplace health and safety.

Providing training in the most effective driving techniques the programme encourages the adoption of the correct attitude required to achieve maximum vehicle sympathy while reducing on-road-risk to a minimum, with due regard to costs and environmental concerns.

Prerequisites

Must hold relevant full license for the category of vehicle driven.

Training Methods

Part 1 - Classroom based highly interactive theory presentation combining; interactive DVD, PowerPoint, questionnaires and Q&A sessions.

Part 2 - In-vehicle assessment, corrective instruction and re-assessment.

Assessment & Certification

Delegates are tested and graded on their ability to meet the requirements set down in the training objectives.

A Precision Academy, Professional Driver Certificate is presented to candidates upon successful completion of the performance test of driving ability.
