FETAC Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor Training

The Course


It is a requirement of the Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005 that Manual Handling Training is delivered by qualified instructors.


This practical, interactive five-day course provides training to potential instructors which meet the guidelines laid down by the Health & Safety Authority. (HSA)


NOTE: Where RPL (recognised prior learning) applies the course is run over 2 days.


Aim

To provide delegates with training in instructional skills, theory and practical aspects of manual handling.


Learning Outcomes

LO1: Delegates will be able to provide a structured learning programme covering the safe manual handling of loads to others. This programme will include theoretical and practical aspects of manual handling.

LO2: Delegates will be able to demonstrate how to carry out a manual handling risk assessment, identifying ergonomic risks and recommending suitable control measures.

LO3: Delegates will be able to demonstrate how to lift and handle loads safely.

LO4: Delegates will be able to discuss relevant health and safety legislation as it relates to the safe manual handling of loads and ergonomics.


Assessment Link to Learning Outcomes


Delegates will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate their new knowledge:

  • Delegates will undergo a written and practical assessment
  • Delegates must present a short PowerPoint presentation (15 minutes approx.)

Methods

This is a highly interactive course and gives delegates the opportunity to practice instructional techniques and methods of safe manual handling throughout. Demonstrate, Involve, Practice (DIP) method, PowerPoint and role-play are used to good effect.

Assessment/Certification

Upon successful completion of the programme successful delegates will receive a Precision Academy Certificate of Attendance.
